Common Faults of Excavator Undercarriage Parts and Maintenance Tips

The undercarriage is the core component of the excavator, responsible for bearing the weight of the whole machine and ensuring the mobility of the equipment. It is composed of track chains, track plates, rollers, sprockets, idlers, and other parts, and operates in harsh environments such as mud, sand, and rocks all year round, making it prone to wear and failure. For foreign trade buyers and equipment operators, mastering the common faults and maintenance tips of undercarriage parts can effectively extend the service life of parts and reduce maintenance costs.

Common faults and causes of undercarriage parts: ① Track chain jitter and abnormal noise during walking, mainly due to improper track tension, foreign bodies such as soil and sand between chain links, or resonance caused by the “polygon effect”. ② Wear, oil leakage of rollers, idlers, and sprockets, which is caused by long-term wear of sand and gravel, improper track tension, or damage to floating oil seals due to high temperature and foreign bodies. ③ Wear, deformation, and fracture of track plates, which are mostly caused by mismatched track plate types and working conditions (such as using standard plates in wetlands), severe friction with the ground, or jamming of gravels. ④ Skewing and oil leakage of idlers, mainly due to improper tension adjustment, aging of oil seals, or rust of piston rods.

Daily maintenance tips for undercarriage parts: ① Clean regularly. After daily work, lift the excavator on one side to make the track leave the ground, and let it idle at high speed to shake off most of the soil and gravel; for stubborn foreign bodies, use tools to clean them to avoid wear of parts caused by foreign bodies. ② Adjust track tension in time. Too tight or too loose track tension will accelerate the wear of undercarriage parts. It is necessary to check and adjust the tension according to the working conditions to ensure that it meets the standard requirements. ③ Check for oil leakage regularly. Inspect the oil seals of rollers, idlers, and other parts every day to find oil leakage and replace the oil seals in time to avoid damage to parts caused by lack of lubrication. ④ Avoid improper operation. Try to avoid sharp turns, high-speed driving on rough roads, and long-term continuous walking, which will significantly increase the wear of the undercarriage. ⑤ Regular inspection and replacement. It is recommended to conduct a comprehensive inspection and cleaning of the undercarriage every 250 working hours, and replace worn parts in time according to the wear degree.

In addition, choosing high-quality undercarriage parts is also the key to reducing faults. It is recommended to choose parts with high wear resistance and corrosion resistance, which can effectively extend the service life and reduce the frequency of replacement.
